Mold Spores: How They Occur and What Are The
Symptoms
Mold comes in a variety of forms, many common and
manageable through the use of medication. Mold grows inside
and outside buildings everywhere in the United States. When
mold is present, it often causes a reaction that affects a
large number of people, adults and children alike.
The
fungus mold does have a purpose. In fact, the spores can
breakdown dead matter, throwing nutrients back into the
air. Plants and animals are capable of carrying mold
spores. Dirt, leaves, paper and wood, found in many
homes and businesses, can lead to mold growth.
Any
place that has significant moisture such as garbage cans
and basements can have mold spores. The window frames of
homes (especially older homes) tend to have mold including
black or green films of it. While you can use bleach to get
rid of the discoloration, the spores are still in the air
and come back to the window frame in a matter of
weeks.
While mold is seen in homes and business, it’s also found
on food. For instance, dairy and yeast containing products
are highly susceptible to mold spores. You can find the
mold by the green or white color sponge-like spores growing
on the food. Even when mold is not yet presents, people who
experience with allergic reactions will have
symptoms.
Food mold doesn’t need to be full-blown to cause allergy
symptoms. If you want to reduce your chances of getting
mold allergy symptoms, it’s best to check the date on all
your food. Most people do not realize that dried fruits are
a source for mold spores. Check the dates and eat these
foods in date or fresh.
Any person, no matter what race, age, body type or gender,
can have an allergic reaction to mold spores. It’s not
unheard for doctors to misdiagnose the symptoms of mold for
symptoms of a cold. After all, they are similar to one
another. For instance, they can both induce wheezing,
rashes, watery eyes and runny noses. Once a diagnoses has
been made, doctors can and often do prescribe Claritin and
Zyrtec to deal with the allergy symptoms. Keep in mind that
these medications don’t cure the allergies but just reduces
the discomfort they cause. You can also find these products
in stores.
Most people suffer allergy symptoms during the fall and
winter months. This is because leaves become damp and
produce mold spores. It’s important to rake them up and
place them in bags to get rid of this possibility. The
winter months combined with fresh air and dampness can
produce a large amount of more spores. One way to get rid
of mold spores is to update your windows, which will reduce
the cold air flowing into your home.
You can also reduce how many mold spores get into your home
by placing plastic over the windows. Make sure you clean
heating filter as often as possible. By doing this, you can
keep the mold spores from re-circulating in the room after
they’ve attached themselves to the heater. You can also use
home air filtration systems to help you out. Be sure to
keep basements free of mold spores by reducing how damp it
is. Be aware of severe mold allergy reactions since they
may require medical attention. If a child has mold
allergies, it’s imperative it’s documented and their doctor
is made aware of it.
